19 of the Russian's 21 championships have been won on hardcourt

A comeback the Russian player won his maiden title for nearly 30 months with success over opponent Moutet in the competition title decider.

The athlete, a former world number one, has had a challenging season, achieving just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a setback at the US Open.

His varied form on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serving in especial - resulted in him exiting of the top ten and eventually separating with former mentor Cervara.

Now working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually advanced in the past month - culminating in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over opponent Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden trophy after the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court from that period of that year.

The win also means he has achieved twenty-one titles at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"For the first time I have attended a event with my both daughters together, so to get a championship is especially meaningful," stated tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I got when my older daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his last six championship matches, including in that event in the past months.

Medvedev's defensive approach and frequent emotional displays on court had caused some to doubt if his capacity to compete at the top level was concluded.

However the 29-year-old has made changes in recent weeks, striving to come to the net and compete assertively, backed up by an better serve.

Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the challenging opponent, securing four of the last five exchanges to take the lead.

The pair exchanged breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, striving for his maiden tour championship, gained dominance to create a final set.

He saved 4 initial chances in a close final set before Medvedev secured a break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Suitably, the winner clinched the title with a shot at the net, with Moutet failing to control a return after a lengthy match.
